PUAFER008 Confine small emergencies in a facility
Confine small emergencies in a facility
Commonly referred to as First Attack Fire Fighting. Most fire incidents can be resolved by quick decisive action and the effective application of the correct extinguishing methods. This unit provides the required knowledge and skills for participants to be able to correctly identify and select the most suitable firefighting equipment typically installed in workplaces such as extinguishers, fire blankets and hose reels and safely use that equipment on small workplace fires.
In a perfect world we would use real fire for participants to demonstrate fire fighting techniques however there are several issues that make this very difficult:
- the very real threat of burns to participants
- restrictions with the lighting of fires due to Fire Restrictions in the area and,
- site dangers such as other staff members, close buildings, lack of suitable space or smoke removal
With this in mind, we offer in class simulated fire fighting methods using “projected” fire via PowerPoint and the use of real extinguishers filled with air only. Using this method we can eliminate potential injury to staff attending the course, eliminate the potential that the course may have to be postponed due to High Fire Danger and also eliminate disturbance of other staff in the organisation.
Courses are available throughout Sydney, Newcastle and the Central Coast.
Course covers:
- Duties of the Emergency Control Organisation
- Preparing for site specific fires
- Reporting a fire
- Evacuating from endangered areas
- The fire triangle and classes of fire
- Fire behaviour and the effects of smoke on humans
- Identification of First Attack Fire Fighting Equipment
- Operation and Application of First Attack Fire Fighting Equipment
- Safe Working Practices
