The Provide First Aid unit provides all participants with the skills and knowledge required to assist in almost any emergency situation involving first aid.

Information for Pharmacist either completing or authorised in providing Immunisation in NSW

Prerequisites for PSA Immunisation Training Course: Manage the delivery and administration of injections and immunisations NSW

Participants must provide evidence of currency in the following at the time of attending the Practical Workshop and Assessment:

  • HLTAID003 Provide First Aid 
  • HLTAID001 Provide Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation

Pharmacist Immuniser’s  must obtain a cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate annually as per NSW Health website requirements

Information for Pharmacy Interns regarding First Aid and CPR:

At the time of completion of an Intern Training Program, an intern pharmacist must hold a current and valid Australian First Aid certificate and CPR certificate.

  • HLTAID003 Provide First Aid (includes Provide Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation)
  • HLTAID001 Provide Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation

Note: you will not need a separate CPR certificate if your First Aid certificate is less than 12 months old.

Provide First Aid

Are you a Pharmacist, pharmacist intern or pharmacy student ?  If you are, then this is the ideal course for you to attend, especially given that only people from the pharmacy industry will be attending, learn with your peers.

This unit has been known in the past as Senior First Aid, Apply First Aid or even Level 2 First Aid. The name of the course changes but the importance of the information contained in the courses hasn’t changed. The HLTAID003 Provide First Aid unit provides participants with the skills and knowledge to assist in almost any emergency situation involving first aid.

The unit is recognised as the required training for first aider’s in the workplace under all the various ‘workcover’ authorities throughout Australia and is specifically noted in the Safework Australia / Safework NSW Code of Practice First Aid in the Workplace.

Pre-course study

To increase your knowledge level and decrease the course duration we have included some pre-course work that is completed online prior to attending the face to face course. Access to this pre-course work will be provided once you have paid and registered.

  • anaphylaxis
  • asthma
  • CPR techniques on adults, children and infants
  • incident reporting 
  • how to properly assess an emergency situation
  • DRSABCD
  • using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • first aid procedures for bleeding, burns and fractures
  • managing medical conditions such as epilepsy and asthma
  • managing medical emergencies such as snake/spider bites, poisons and choking
  • infection control procedures
  • managing exposure to extreme temperatures
  • administering  first aid for eye & soft tissue injuries
  • assessing and moving sick & injured
  • legal responsibilities of a first aider
  • basic anatomy
  • managing shock

Target Audience

Our target audience for this course are Pharmacists only. This unit is designed for those who wish to gain a good understanding of first aid and those that are, or wish to become a designated first aider in their workplace. It is also an excellent course to undertake even for those who just wish to learn about first aid.

Numeracy and literacy skills are needed to attend this course. Access to a computer with internet, as well as basic computer skills is required for completion of this unit. Completion of this unit does require the student to be able to get onto the floor to perform CPR – this is a licensing requirement of the unit.

If you have ANY special needs ( eg, language / literacy / numeracy difficulties, physical disabilities etc ) that you think may impact on your ability to complete this training please let us know prior to enrolling.

Assessment requirements

There is some theory and practical assessment to ensure that the participant has gained the required knowledge and confidence in the skills covered in the unit. You will be required, as per the Training Package, to complete 2 mins of CPR on a CPR manikin. Participants will also be required to demonstrate various practical skills including application of slings etc

Recertification requirements

CPR refresher is recommended annually and Provide First Aid at least every 3 years

It is required that you watch the CPR videos available on our website to aid in your understanding of CPR.

There will be a short quiz at the beginning of the course on the information contained in the videos, this is to enable the trainer to better guide the content of the course for you.

First Aid Training Especially for Society Members

COVID-19 UPDATE

MAINTAINING OUR SERVICE AND PRICES DURING THESE DIFFICULT TIMES.

As of 3rd August 2020 ALL students attending courses will STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to wear a face mask ( either fabric or surgical type ) during our courses. It is the responsibility of the student to bring their own mask . This decision has been made to ensure the safety of our trainers and ALL students. 

The venues we use especially in Sydney region are clubs, as such they have the right to set their own restrictions around who can and cannot enter the facility. These restriction are totally out of our control and not always in line with Health Guidelines. We recommend you contact the venue you are booked to attend the day before the course and check that you are not restricted based on your individual situation. We can transfer your registration free of charge (if due to COVID venue restriction)  only if we are notified the day before a course. Normal cancellation policies will apply if we are not contacted prior to the event.

We are taking all required steps to ensure everyone’s safety including ensuring 4sqm per person, removing tables, no breathes required when doing CPR, ample cleansing wipes, refusal of attendance for any participants presenting with flu or cold symptoms or those that should be self isolating. 

Our standing request for unwell students : If you are unwell with any type of “cold or flu” we will NOT ALLOW YOU TO ENTER THE COURSE.
