Perform rescue from a live LV panel including CPR

This Competency Standard Unit covers the performance of rescue procedures from live Low Voltage (LV) apparatus, not including overhead lines and underground cables in the work place. It specifies the mandatory requirements of rescue from a live LV panel and how they apply in the context of transmission, distribution or rail work functions. It encompasses responsibilities for, health, safety and risk management processes at all operative levels and adherence to safety practices as part of the normal way of doing work

This unit is ALWAYS delivered delivered following and in combination with the HLTAID001 Provide CPR

Course covers:

  • Inspection of rescue equipment
  • Assessing hazards to rescuer, victim and others
  • Isolation procedures where appropriate
  • Knowledge of Safe Approach Distances (SAD’s) appropriate to rescue from a live LV panel
  • Involvement of external emergency services
  • Placement of rescue equipment
  • Controlling hazards to rescuer, victim and others
  • Maintaining Safe Approach Distances (SAD’s) appropriate to rescue from a live LV panel
  • Practical demonstration of rescuing a person
  • Removing victim to safe location / place of safety

Target Audience

Electricity Supply Industry workers who undertake the installation and/or maintenance of network infrastructure which requires workers to Perform rescue from a live LV panel and CPR, to meet OHS, mobility and mutual aid requirements.

Candidates must hold and shall be current in the unit:

HLTAID001        Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Course Requirements

Only basic numeracy and literacy skills are needed to attend this course. Access to a computer with internet, as well as basic computer skills is required for completion of this unit

Attendance and successful completion of the HLTAID001 Provide CPR unit is required prior to attempting this unit

If you have ANY special needs ( eg, language / literacy / numeracy difficulties, physical disabilities etc ) that you think may impact on your ability to complete this training please let us know prior to enrolling. 

Recertification requirements

CPR refresher and refresher in this unit is required annually or as specified by your employer. Some organisations require this unit to be refreshed every 6 months

Course Duration

Face to face training is approx. 3 hours 

Pre-course study

It is required that you watch the CPR videos as well as read the first aid book available on our website to aid in your understanding of CPR and first aid.

There will be a short quiz at the beginning of the course on the information contained in the videos, this is to enable the trainer to better guide the content of the course for you.

Assessment requirements

There is some theory and practical assessment to ensure that the participant has gained the required knowledge and confidence in the skills covered in the unit. A reasonable level of physical fitness is also required to complete this unit as participants will be required to drag a 30kg manikin using a rescue crook.

Anyone with any injury or condition that may be affected by dragging a heavy manikin should not attempt this unit

COVID-19 UPDATE

MAINTAINING OUR SERVICE AND PRICES DURING THESE DIFFICULT TIMES.

As of 3rd August 2020 ALL students attending courses will STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to wear a face mask ( either fabric or surgical type ) during our courses. It is the responsibility of the student to bring their own mask . This decision has been made to ensure the safety of our trainers and ALL students. 

The venues we use especially in Sydney region are clubs, as such they have the right to set their own restrictions around who can and cannot enter the facility. These restriction are totally out of our control and not always in line with Health Guidelines. We recommend you contact the venue you are booked to attend the day before the course and check that you are not restricted based on your individual situation. We can transfer your registration free of charge (if due to COVID venue restriction)  only if we are notified the day before a course. Normal cancellation policies will apply if we are not contacted prior to the event.

We are taking all required steps to ensure everyone’s safety including ensuring 4sqm per person, removing tables, no breathes required when doing CPR, ample cleansing wipes, refusal of attendance for any participants presenting with flu or cold symptoms or those that should be self isolating. 

Our standing request for unwell students : If you are unwell with any type of “cold or flu” we will NOT ALLOW YOU TO ENTER THE COURSE.
